Iconic performers of Gypsy dance and music – the Boban Marković Orkestar, Parno Graszt, Mónika Lakatos and the Roma Fest Gypsy Dance Theatre – will evoke the mood of a Roma wedding feast with a joint staged concert at the Liszt Fest.
There are few things louder and more colourful than a Roma wedding feast, and in one of his Szindbád stories, Gyula Krúdy notes that ‘no real Gypsy wedding would last shorter than two days and two nights.’ While the concert will not be as exhausting, the performers will do their best to pack into the evening at least as many sensory experiences as would take place at a days-long revelry. As for the riot of colours and the volume of the music, few can possibly feel let down, with Roma folklore assimilating the cultures of the different regions as a matter of course. This spirited evening will whirl the audience into distant worlds, from Paszab through Târgu Mureş to Vladičin Han in Serbia.
