Elemér Balázs – drums, József Balázs - organ, synthetizer, Klára Hajdú, Gábor Winand – vocals, Dávid Lamm – guitar, Márton Soós – double bass, József Czibere – percussion Guest soloist: Núria Rial (Spain) – vocals Featuring: Voces4 vocal ensemble (Zoltán Mizsei, András Koncz, Csaba Gyulai, József Csapó), Nóra Kallai – viola da gamba The popularity of the Elemér Balázs Group would put most pop groups to shame and their concerts are always attended by an enthusiastic group of admirers. Formed... in 2000, the ensemble created a unique musical world which is best characterised by rhythmic precision, melodic themes and the colouring effect of two voices. We find a number of talented jazz musicians from the younger generation of jazz musicians in the group who have shown what they can do in earlier productions. This concert presents material from their CD Early Music released in late 2007 which is highly ambitious and unique. The collaboration between László Dés and the Elemér Balázs Quartet with the Voces4 vocal ensemble led at their first attempt to Contemporary Gregorian which placed ancient music into a jazz context. They have continued along this unique path with their next project, Early Music which takes Renaissance and Baroque composers, among them Pergolesi, Handel, Machaut and Guerrero. The record features Núria Rial who can also be seen at the closing concert of the Jazz Spring 2008 festival. After graduating from the Basel Schola Cantorum, she soon established herself as a leading early music performer. She has worked with the likes of René Jacobs and the Akademie für Alte Musik, Giovanni Antonini and Il Giardino Armonico, Philippe Pierlot and the Ricercar Consort as well as Jordi Saval and his group. Elemér Balázs and his group have a longstanding relationship with the Voces4 group; the authentic sound is reinforced by the inclusion of viola da gamba artist Nóra Kallai.
