The stars of this series are the 'tools” of music: its instruments. Children attending will get the chance to familiarise themselves with these instruments in the context of authentic live music under the guidance of expert musicians. In this half of the year, we will be travelling the globe. The children will come across music of folk original and rarely heard instruments from various parts of the world in the course of the concerts and the demonstrations that follow them.
At this first event, they will be invited to try the characteristic percussion instrument of flamenco, the cajón, as well as getting to know the palmas technique of clapping and the special zapateado foot-tapping style used to produce a wide variety of rhythms. The melodies of the Spanish guitar conjure forth emotional dances - and its strings are capable of inspiring everything from the most painful sadness to the greatest joy. And perhaps even the fly swatter and the castanets have a story to tell? Who knows? If you do not believe us, look into it!
The Ethnosound world music instrument shop is providing the cajóns for the interactive part of the event.
