Marica Puppet Theatre: Shoe Story
Musical puppetry hullabaloo based on the folk story The Tulip
19 November 2022, Saturday
10 am - 11 am
Glass Hall

MINI MATINÉE

Awaiting the audience at the Marica Puppet Theatre is a musical puppetry hullabaloo that is definitely not to be missed. Although the path Princess Pumps and Bandi Boots have to follow in order to find each other is a bumpy one paved with all kinds of difficulties, if the audience of children (and sufficiently mischievous adults) join in the fun, then it's not a bone-dry hard-as-shoe-leather fairy tale we will get, but a playful collective game vibrating with life and good humour. And by the end of the story, if not earlier, we will come to understand that we are all walking in the same shoes!

This time, longtime collaborators Marica Tárnok and Mari Sz. Nagy have created a production based on the Hungarian folk tale The Tulip: their interactive programme titled "Shoe Story: My Tulip in Love” is guaranteed to have even the strictest parents and grumpiest children laughing. Their story is one about love, friendship, and, of course, the three trials well known from other fairy tales, as well as the courage required to pass them. Princess Pumps publicly announces that she will marry the man who is able to hide from her so well that she cannot ever find him. After many unsuccessful attempts, along comes the happy-go-lucky Bandi Boots, who accepts the challenge, confident that he will be the one to finally answer it spectacularly. But until then, many pairs of shoes will wear out on the long journey, and in the meantime, speaking of the shoe theme, in the hands of these expert performers, everything shoe-related under the sky - from mud brushes to shoe trees - will appear as puppets. While Tibor Farkas's Latin Swing-style music and Judit Bali's witty lyrics guarantee a positive atmosphere in the auditorium from the very start, the fine mood will definitely reach its peak when the performers take a strict inventory of the shoes worn by the participating audience members. Animation seasoned with various objects, puppets, music, love, and of course lots of funny games.
