Folk instruments were originally made by musical craftsmen – simple village people living in decidedly modest circumstances. Indeed, as far back as we can remember, the zither was considered an instrument of the peasants. It can be made cheaply, and is relatively easy to learn. The performance style of plucked string instruments differs from that of other instruments: the musician plays the instrument by plucking a tensed string with a finger, nail or plectrum. In this show, we can look forward to a presentation of the most significant Hungarian folk plucked string instruments and an exploration of their diverse potential.
