Xaver Varnus has played concerts on the most significant organs in the world, including the ones in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Washington National Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, Berlin Cathedral and the chief churches of Paris - Notre-Dame, Saint-Sulpice and Saint-Eustache. He has also played on the largest working instrument in the world: the Wanamaker organ in Philadelphia. As an organist, writer and media personality alike, he has done a great deal to popularise organ music.
A total of six million tickets have been sold for the three thousand concerts he has given over the course of his career so far, and he has released 53 records, 65 concert films and five books. His YouTube recordings have been viewed 29 million times - with his 2013 concert at Berlin Cathedral, where he recorded Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, alone attracting more than five million viewers. His 2007 quadruple platinum record From Ravel to Vangelis, released by Sony and recorded on Müpa Budapest's organ, has sold more copies than any other album of organ music in history. The recording of the 2013 concert of music by Bach he gave in Berlin Cathedral is the most-watched organ concert film of all time, with nearly 12 million views. In addition to his other recognitions, Varnus has received two prestigious recognitions from the Hungarian state: the Officer's Cross and Middle Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit. He has purchased a 19th-century church on Canada's Atlantic coast, in which he has opened his own concert venue: Varnus Hall. On his 58th birthday, he was presented with the Queen's Jubilee Medal by Lieutenant Governor Arthur LeBlanc, representing Queen Elizabeth II.
