Wagner
Siegfried - A music drama in three acts (German-language performance, with projected subtitles in Hungarian)
Without Siegfried, there is no Ring. Fortunately, the Wagner in Budapest Festival under the guidance of Ádám Fischer has found a tenor capable of singing this almost unsingable part in a manner both domineering and subtly suggestive, and with a commitment to the role's dramatic power. Christian Franz has been a regular guest in Budapest for years, and has also sung the title role of the third opera in the tetralogy with great success at the Metropolitan Opera under James Levine. The figure of the grasping Nibelung Mime is brought to life by Jürgen Sacher. The British Opera Magazine describes Egils Silins as one of the world's leading interpreters of the role of Wotan. The Latvian singer is in demand to perform at Europe's leading opera houses, from Zurich to Paris, and in Madrid, Berlin and London.
The part of Brünnhilde - a true test of strength in the 30-minute scene at the end of the work - goes to Petra Lang, regarded as one of the finest interpreters of Wagner's music on the international scene. She has portrayed the role of the disowned, lovelorn valkyrie under conductors such as Marek Janowski (in Berlin), Jonathan Nott (in Lucerne) and Philippe Jordan (at the Paris Opera). Hungarian mezzo-soprano Bernadett Fodor, to be seen and heard at the Wagner in Budapest Festival in the role of Erda, received the Austrian Goldener Schikaneder Musiktheaterpreis in early June 2015 in the category of "best female supporting role.”
