The Estonian-American conductor Neeme Järvi is often referred to as the founder of a “conductor dynasty”, as both of his sons, Paavo and Kristjan, have become world-renowned orchestra leaders. Neeme Järvi has worked with distinguished ensembles such as the Scottish National Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. This concert with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra features an immensely popular work and a rare gem. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor will be performed with the Hungarian-Egyptian violinist Amira Abouzahra as the soloist, while the symphony by Wilhelm Furtwängler, a conductor of legendary renown, will likely be a novelty for almost all present. The late-Romantic work bears the influence of Anton Bruckner and Richard Strauss.
The concert is presented as a collaboration between the MÁV Symphony Orchestra and Pilvax Films, as part of the All Star Series programme curated by Stathis Karapanos.
