Christus oratorio
The magnum opus that Liszt composed in Weimar will be performed by an ensemble whose predecessor was raised into the elite of European orchestras by Liszt himself. In recent years, conductor Martin Haselböck earned intense attention internationally, and particularly from the lovers of Liszt's music, with a very inspirational undertaking: he threw a new light on Liszt's symphonic poems by recording them with period instruments.
The Christus oratorio is closely related to Weimar: the complete composition was presented in 1873, at the Herder Church in Weimar, with Liszt himself conducting. The composer's ambitious undertaking to revitalize Catholic church music reached its summit with Christus.
