In spite of the fact that the current extraordinary situation prevents us all from meeting at Müpa Budapest in person, we would still like to make the coming days nicer and more uplifting. This is why we are broadcasting a recording of the live concert in Germany at Theater Essen on our website and YouTube channel.

We look forward to welcoming you to the event, through your screen!

The performance will be broadcasted on our website and YouTube channel.

We've become accustomed to the great tenors and sopranos being genuine megastars, personalities whose every move is watched by their armies of fans. A couple of decades ago, the world's renowned countertenors closed the gap on them, their ranks now containing idols to match Caruso, Callas and their ilk. The young Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński is one such star - and this is hardly surprising, given that he is not only a wonderful singer, but has the looks of an Apollo (and, let us mention incidentally, is sought after as a fashion model). What is more, besides singing he is also a breakdancing virtuoso.
A star singer, a star ensemble, and a programme that primarily contains exciting rarities: this is what lies in store this evening. Jakub Józef Orliński was born in Warsaw in 1990. The Polish opera singer and countertenor is also a breakdancing champion and advertising model for international fashion houses. He performs before packed houses, whether the venue is New York's Carnegie Hall or the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and whether the programme features Handel's Messiah or Erismena, a rarely heard opera by Cavalli. "I realised that with a countertenor voice I can really express what I feel and want to say. It was an awesome feeling to discover that I only want to sing like this. I would never be a bass-baritone, for example, because for me there is no joy in performing classical music at this pitch. I'm very happy to sing pop hits in a bass-baritone voice, but not opera,” Orliński said of himself in one interview. Now he will present his album Facce d'amore (Faces of Love), released on the Erato label. The collaborating orchestra, Il Pomo d'Oro, was formed in 2012, and quickly joined the international vanguard of historically informed early music ensembles. The two most frequently occurring names in its discography are Handel and Vivaldi, and it has been led since 2016 by Maxim Emelyanychev.

The recording was made in Germany at Theater Essen on 10 May 2021.
