Are all good chamber musicians good soloists as well? Not necessarily. Is a brilliant soloist sure to make a good chamber musician? Maybe so, maybe not. Then what should we expect? Let us put our faith in the humility and adaptability of a Siberian-born pianist and a Lithuanian violinist.

Audiences can look forward to a truly exceptional evening. Both Denis Matsuev, chosen as Müpa Budapest's 2018-2019 Artist of the Season, and Julian Rachlin are monumental musical personalities with enormous spirit, expressiveness and charisma. They are also true virtuosos. To date, Matsuev has only performed in concertos and at solo piano evenings in Hungary, while Julian Rachlin has already appeared in Budapest concert halls as a chamber musician. The cooperation, ability to adapt and musical dialogue that flows between them will be exciting to behold.
They have chosen passionate works to present the audience with a 'golden path': an ideal representation of 'concert chamber music' to suit both their personalities, and to create the right environment to suit the musical world of the pieces appearing on the programme. Concerto chamber music, which requires big sound, sweeping momentum and lively temperaments, provides a framework for the emergence of two such great and passionate musicians.
One thing is certain: all those interested in dramatic interpretations of instrumental music, and the compatibility and malleability of different musical means of expression, can expect a particularly exciting experience as these two extraordinary representatives of concert music meet.
