Die Walküre – Wotan’s Farewell and Magic Fire Music from Act 3

At this concert, the BFO will take us on a musical journey along the Rhine, both to its banks – in the form of Schumann’s symphony inspired by some pleasant experiences there – and its depths, with a scene from Wagner. The former commemorates a peaceful riverside excursion to the Rhine, and the latter is one of the most famous excerpts from the monumental opera tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung, in which the Rhine plays a leading role. Featured are two outstanding German singers portraying Brünhilde and Wotan. Anja Kampe has sung Brünhilde in major opera houses everywhere from Vienna and Berlin to Sydney. Her recording of Die Walküre received the ECHO Klassik award in 2013 for best opera album of the year. Taking the stage as the chief of the gods will be returning guest soloist Hanno Müller-Brachmann, whom The New York Times described as “a singer with a firm, dark and exciting voice”.
