Castelnuovo-Tedesco
Overture to Giulio Cesare, Op. 78
Lalo
Spanish Symphony, Op. 21
Berlioz
Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14
An overture inspired by a Shakespeare play, a violin concerto paying tribute to Pablo de Sarasate and an autobiographical love story – that is what this concert, just as remarkable in terms of its featured artists as it is for its programme – has to offer. Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the Colombian-born principal conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, is known for his energy, elegance and spirit. Being a violinist himself as well, Estrada will be able to communicate perfectly with the evening’s soloist: born in 2002 and now signed with Deutsche Grammophon, María Dueñas is a favourite of the critics from The Guardian, The Times and The Strad, who have dubbed her ‘the devil in white’.
