Prokofiev

Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major, Op. 100

Despite being a piano virtuoso himself, even Prokofiev would have found it no simple task to play all five of his piano concertos in three days. Taking on this challenge alongside the Budapest Festival Orchestra is the Russian-German pianist Igor Levit. It is not only the concertos that will change each day: so will the symphonic pieces, thus exposing the audience to two symphonies, an overture and two suites from the composer’s oeuvre over the course of the three evenings as well. This extraordinary undertaking kicks off with Prokofiev’s first and last piano concertos, followed by his Fifth Symphony.
