J. S. Bach
Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C major, BWV 564
Although Bach never left Germany, he was very familiar with the musical trends of his time and the most important composers and their works. Just as he would rearrange his own concertos (so that violinists and pianists could also include certain works in their repertoires), he also boldly tackled the works of other composers. The best-known of these are his transcriptions of Vivaldi's concertos, although the melodies of Corelli and Legrenzi also exercised their influence.
Lorenzo Ghielmi, a specialist in Renaissance and Baroque music and a recognised organist, harpsichordist and conductor, has compiled the bulk of his programme from these compositions.
Additional programmes will spice up the event in the Glass Hall and the Foyer; for example, the Bach Café and Bach Organ-workshop.
