Who could forget the elemental power of Man of Marble and Man of Iron? Or the gripping story of The Promised Land, the harrowing drama of Katyń, and the tragically fated heroes of Ashes and Diamonds? Born 100 years ago, Andrzej Wajda was not only one of the founders of the Polish Film School, but also a legendary figure of world cinema whose films are regarded in Hungary as cult masterpieces. Like his friends István Szabó and Miklós Jancsó, two giants of Hungarian cinema, he too made history on the silver screen. The spirit of rebellion, freedom and love that permeates his works now takes on a new lease of life in this performance by the Budafok Dohnanyi Orchestra. The concert is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry for Social Relations and Culture of Hungary.
