An Evening with János Térey
23 January 2012 Monday
7 pm - 8:30 pm
Glass Hall
Literarium – Contemporary Writers at Müpa Budapest

It is no coincidence that the Palace of Arts’ new series of literary events kicks off with an evening in the company of János Térey. It would be almost impossible to find a more sympathetic guest to convincingly demonstrate, for the eyes and ears of lovers of contemporary literature, the birth of a new kind of integrated artistic production that goes far beyond the customary confines of a simple evening of readings. What we are witnessing is the first of a series of six unusual thematic evenings in the Glass Hall, of a high artistic standard but at the same time enjoyably accessible to all, for which Térey – with his unorthodox, simultaneously rigorous and eccentric, strictly disciplined but no less challengingly provocative nature – promises to be an excellent subject. Poems and drama, verse novels, mystery plays, dramatic poems... the Hospital in the Rock, the József Katona and National Theatres; innumerable prizes, among them the Laurel Wreath and Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Republic... 17 volumes of work, 13 theatre productions: a complete life’s work – and more. Born to be a poet in Debrecen, taking Budapest by storm – and with no intention of taking a rest, he has many followers – and what is more, imitators. Despite his lack of years, but already all but classic author. Like the rest of the series to follow, the opening evening will combine unexpected occurrences, improvisation and unique ideas with a scenario devised by Eszter Novák – to go along with the readings, conversation and surprise guests invited by the author. All this will be kept in hand by the enchanting hostess Alinda Veiszer, with musical accompaniment provided by the no less captivating Veronika Harcsa and her friends. Presented by: Palace of Arts
