Born in Buffalo, New York, but a French citizen since 1995 and today one of the most important figures in the historically informed performance of early music movement, conductor William Christie is celebrating his 80th birthday. To mark the occasion, he will lead his ensemble, the orchestra Les Arts Florissants, on a special tour together with such outstanding singers as soprano Ana Vieira Leite, mezzo-sopranos Juliette Mey and Rebecca Leggett, tenor Bastien Rimondi and baritone Matthieu Walendzik. As for what they will be performing at the concerts, it could hardly be anything other than a selection of Christie’s favourite music: works by Charpentier, Lully and Rameau.
