Capriccio – for solo cello and symphony orchestra

Shostakovich

Symphony No. 7 in C major (“Leningrád”), Op. 60

At this concert, the concertmaster turns composer, the former conductor becomes a soloist, and the composer takes on the role of chronicler. Zoltán Bánfalvi, the concertmaster of the Pannon Philharmonic, debuts on this occasion as a composer with his Capriccio, which was inspired by Shostakovich’s cello concertos. The soloist will be Tibor Bogányi, the orchestra’s former chief conductor. The evening concludes with Shostakovich’s monumental and epic symphony, in which the composer makes his presence felt as a historical narrator. As the orchestra plays, the audience is sure to be privy to a very special experience.
