Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major (‘Rhenish’), Op. 97
Not only is the Staatskapelle Dresden one of the oldest orchestras in the world, it is also among the very best, helmed in recent decades by such conductors as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Bernard Haitink, Fabio Luisi and Christian Thielemann. Accompanying them to Müpa Budapest will be their new artistic director, the dynamic and versatile Daniele Gatti. After kicking off their programme with the atmospheric winter landscape of Ciel d'hiver, by the recently deceased world-famous Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, they will play two passionate works of Schumann’s: his Violin Concerto and Third Symphony. Soloist Frank Peter Zimmermann is one of the most celebrated violin virtuosos of our time.
