PASO have always been pioneers of experimentation, playing folk music-inspired songs and being the first group to appear in the Müpa Budapest MR Symphonic series. In 2018, PASO will once again embark on a new adventure: after the traditions of classic and folk music, they are currently immersed in the rich textures of big band swing.
The types of music that first formed in the smoky jazz clubs of the 1900s had a great impact on Caribbean dance music in the scorching heat of the island of Jamaica. The students of the Jamaican Alpha Boys School began a journey which would lead to what we now know as ska music. PASO is now trying to reverse that direction with an attempt to move from ska music, via a big band sound, to a world of ska jazz. For the first time, they will perform their songs with big band instrumentation and a big band line-up, including more than a dozen wind instruments. They will perform the greatest hits of the Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra - many of them transformed into full-on swing beats.
