The World-Wide series has run annually at Müpa Budapest since 2013, and puts two instruments unique to Hungary, the cimbalom and tárogató, centre stage. The evening’s concerts are traditionally preceded by panel discussions led by Endre Liber. The other permanent host, and also a performer, is the cimbalom player Kálmán Balogh, who will talk about the process of inscribing the instrument on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list, and the foundation of the Schunda Fellowship established this year. We will also hear from the tárogató ambassador József Terék on the reception the instrument receives abroad, while Krisztina ‘Koszika’ Koszorús will discuss musical life in Transylvania, and the acceptance of crossover and world music genres across the border.
