Among the events marking the 500th anniversary year of the Reformation is a fully staged performance of George Frideric Handel's timeless oratorio masterpiece, Messiah. This adaptation, bearing the title Messiah. Now, is a rock-oratorio passion combining traditional instruments with modern electronic ones. The biblical text will be sung in a new Hungarian translation.
The aim of the creative team and the performers, who come from a variety of genres, is to make Handel's oratorio enjoyable for lovers of different kinds of music of all age groups as a way to deliver the message of this marvellous work to the audience. Providing the Baroque sound will be the world-famous Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra and the New Franz Liszt Chamber Choir, a vocal ensemble which is highly regarded in professional circles, joined by four leading soloists - Rita Rácz, Eszter Balogh..., Attila Csengeri and Géza Gábor - to represent the oratorio's classical side. The performance will also feature top musicians like rock legends Charlie Horváth and János Karácsony (of LGT) and others familiar from the musical theatre stage: Andrea Malek, Lajos Csuha, Tamás Földes, Pál Makrai and János Szemenyei. This performance involving nearly one hundred artists, dressed in costumes designed by Kata Horváth, will also emphasise movement and dance courtesy of the Inversedance company headed by choreographer Zoltán Fodor. The concept behind the production comes from its conductor and musical and artistic director, Mátyás Várkonyi, a Ferenc Erkel Award-winning composer who is also leader of the group Generál and the founding director of the Rock Theatre.
