International Jazz Day - Symbiosis 5
30 April 2023, Sunday
3 pm - 4:30 pm
Festival Theatre
Produced by Müpa Budapest

We will enjoy welcoming as many visitors as we can, up to the capacity of the venues, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Virtually ever since the foundation of International Jazz Day event series in 2011, Müpa Budapest has participated with a colourful and eclectic programme. One Müpa custom within this tradition is for the winners of the Jazz Showcase Jury Prize to be given the opportunity to play a concert on International Jazz Day. This year, the jury's favourite also won the Audience Prize too. They are Symbiosis 5, who will take to the stage at 5 pm. From 8 pm, the Klára Hajdu Quartet, formed 15 years ago, will present their favourite songs, some surprise tunes and three superb special guests.

The members of Symbiosis 5 have already received a wide range of recognition, both at home and abroad. The international jury of 2023 Jazz Showcase also unanimously voted their show as the best. The young group boast their own compositions and a unique performance style - something that the Festival Theatre audience will (once again) be able to see with their own eyes. The group's members first met at the Liszt Academy and the Béla Bartók Conservatory. Levente Kapolcsi-Szabó, Benedek Virág, Tamás Gyányi and Roland Majsai all graduated from the Liszt Academy in 2022, while Máté Drippey completed his studies at the academy four years previously, before beginning a scholarship at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne in 2021. Roland Majsai won the audience prize at the 2022 Young Jazz Musician of the Year. Though Symbiosis 5's sound is heavily steeped in modal jazz, they also enjoy applying a wide array of other musical elements.
