Could you imagine a more convincing line-up for a jazz concert? Hudson, otherwise known as Jack DeJohnette, Scott Colley, John Medeski and John Scofield, are not here merely to jam, but to showcase material from their mature, self-titled album. They may not all be of the same generation - they will celebrate the 70th birthday of DeJohnette, their oldest member, during the tour - but they participate in the group as equals. And, of course, the fact that all of them live close to the Hudson River, which flows through the state of New York, serves as a major source of inspiration. They are musicians who have seen it all, so, by bringing together all that they have produced and created in the music world to date, they can offer their listeners an incredibly rich stylistic adventure built on elements of funk, bop, swing and groove.
Their first record was released in the summer of 2017 - with Larry Grenadier on double bass in place of Scott Colley - with a focus on songs inspired by the Hudson Valley, including covers of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix and The Band, original compositions from Jack DeJohnette and John Scofield and the jointly-written title song, which recalls the heyday of Miles Davis. The prospect of seeing all these songs performed live is unpredictable thrill. The fact that four musicians of such incredible individual talent should decide to work together is special enough in itself, which is why this evening promises to be something truly exceptional.
