The Japanese pianist is the most enchanting natural phenomenon in jazz. She is virtuosic and calculating, sensuous and charismatic at the same time. Her mode of performance is spellbinding, as every part of her body plays the music, to which she surrenders herself with an astonishing intensity. The magic that shines in her incomparable playing also informs her compositions.
The Trio Project, the band to play now in Budapest, was formed in 2011, and released its fourth album, Spark this April - it is Hiromi's tenth CD as a leader. It is suggestive of a special cohesion between the members that they remain faithful to the trio, when both the bassist and the drummer are much sought-after musicians.
