Father John Misty
14 November 2018, Wednesday
7 pm - 9 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Produced by Müpa Budapest

As well as releasing eight folk albums under his own name, the American songwriter, guitarist and singer Joshua Tillman also found success as drummer and backing singer for the Fleet Foxes between 2008 and 2012. After leaving the band, Tillman began a second solo career under the pseudonym Father John Misty and has now become a genuine star. Liberated by his stage name, Tillman began writing lyrics full of caustic humour and pop rock songs worthy of 1970s Elton John. Fear Fun, his psychedelic pop record released in 2012, was met with favourable reviews, while his second album I Love You, Honeybear, which dealt with the decadent/destructive lifestyle alongside themes of true love and marriage, was acclaimed on a range of music forums as the best album of 2015.
The following year, he featured as a co-writer on songs for the albums of both Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, and also played Jim Morrison in the music video for Lana Del Rey's 2016 Freak. His 2017 full length, piano-based album Pure Comedy, was a quieter affair, featuring social critiques and a politically themed, apocalyptic vision. This year's album, God's Favourite Customer, is similar in personality to his 2015 masterpiece, providing a more animated sound for the charismatic performer's new tour and first ever Hungarian concert.
