TEN YEARS OF MÜPA - JUBILEE WEEKEND

Brilliant musicians, fantastically individual singers and wonderful songs - today we can say that Budapest Bár has changed what people think about how a Gypsy band should sound. In 2014, the band released two albums entitled Húszezer éjszakás kaland and Délutáni csókok. This concert will feature a selection of tunes from these records and some old favourites too.
Budapest Bár was founded and is led by Róbert Farkas. The original intention was to breathe new life into Gypsy music of the urban café scene. Thanks to the band, long-forgotten tunes have re-entered the public consciousness and become a part of today's youth culture. Not stopping at songs which conform to the standard repertoire of a Gypsy band, they move onwards in time, pushing the boundaries of the Gypsy band sound. Anyone who has attended the band's concerts recently will know that, besides their passion for the 1920s and 1930s, they are increasingly dipping into the pool of emblematic rock and pop hits, covering songs by Tom Waits, Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Cave, LGT, David Bowie and even Depeche Mode. And let's admit it: these are not the kinds of tunes we often get to hear on the cimbalom.
