Multi-instrumentalist and singer Balázs Szabó and his band have created a distinctive musical and lyrical world into which they invite their followers to venture time and time again. Balázs's journey to the main stages of music festivals was long: he began his performing career as "just a guitarist”, and then worked for years as a puppeteer. No doubt he also has this to thank for his fascination with a great many different aspects of work for the stage - and he has already made contributions as a director and a composer for theatre. Since his student days, Balázs has also been a great fan of literature, and has long put both classic and contemporary verse to music. Besides the traditional "jumping” concerts of the Balázs Szabó Band, Balázs also reveals this side of his personality from time to time: this evening entitled Csöndkabát (Coat of Silence) is based on musical settings of poetry, evoking the works of the performer's favourite Hungarian poets.
"It's a special gift to wander among these verses, seeking love in the landscapes of Radnóti, idling in an empty room with Pilinszky's view of the world, or surprising Szemlér on a café terrace. The poems take us all around the world without us noticing, as if we were only dreaming, and to be together on this journey is an indescribable adventure.” (Balázs Szabó)
Besides the verse settings, naturally we could not be without one of the most famous tunes from the Balázs Szabó Band, Bájoló (Enchanting) - this too, of course, shrouded in a cloak of silence.
