When the Gyula Babos's instrument fell forever silent in April 2018, we were left without Hungary's most influential and unique jazz guitarist. His world of composition, his search for a path and his musicality were examples not only for guitarists: he was an influence on Hungarian artistic life across the board. To present his work and convey its significance is a great challenge for the concert's organisers, but is perhaps the most beautiful task imaginable for his numerous past collaborators. The artistic director for the evening is trumpeter and composer Kornél Fekete-Kovács, one of the defining musicians in the guitarist's final ensemble, who invited his wife, the singer Klári Katona, to assist him in developing the concept.
Former members of Babos's most important bands will take the stage during this uninterrupted stream of music to perform characteristic compositions from the exceptional eras of his career: Rákfogó, Saturnus, Project Romani and Project Special, BALANcE and Makrokozmosz. Each of the guitarists in the formations will evoke Gyula Babos in their own musical language. All of these representatives of the young generation of musicians are former students who Babos helped with his expert guidance to come closer to their ultimate goal: to capture the essence of themselves and create their own musical worlds. The end of the evening will represent a timeless moment for all present to take with them: after the final note fades, the music of Babos will play on in our souls.
