Amorf Ördögök
Minibár és a Celluxbetyár (Minibar and the Sellotape Bandit)
1 June 2024, Saturday
8 pm - 9:50 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Produced by Müpa Budapest
Hey, June!

In the summer of 2024, the legendary Hungarian group the Amorf Ördögök – who categorise themselves as ‘kacatpop’ (kitsch pop) – will reunite after a seven-year hiatus. Founder, lyricist and singer Szabolcs Tariska will be joined on stage by his songwriting companion, keyboard player and singer Ambrus Tövisházi, and, of course, Bori Péterfy, who also performed Tövisházi-Tariska songs at the start of her later solo career. We will also have the pleasure of enjoying a performance from a very special guest: the actor János Kulka.

The Amorf Ördögök began life as a high school band, before becoming one of the definitive groups of 21st century Hungarian pop music. The title of this concert – Minibár és a Celluxbetyár (Minibar and the Sellotape Bandit) – references the band’s three album releases. The show will feature songs from Betyár a Holdon (Bandit on the Moon), released in 2002, Molylepke Minibár (Moth Minibar), which came two years later, and the 2005 Cellux-szimfónia (Sellotape Symphony). All of the accompanying musicians for this evening also played in the comeback concerts that took place seven years ago – the trio will be accompanied by drummer Gergely Gáspár, bass guitarist Gergely Drapos, guitarist Ádám Mészáros, trumpet player Ákos Tompa and the percussionist István Pápai. To the band’s great delight, János Kulka will also sing one song as a guest performer on this truly special evening. It should be no surprise to know that the evening will also feature songs from the acting legend Kulka’s recently released album Pálmaszív (Palm Heart) – composed by the Tariska–Tövisházi songwriting duo. But what kind of music do the Amorf Ördögök actually play? Their sound is a blend of couplets, operettas, the floor show EPs of the 1960s, tango, love ballads and, in their own words, hip-hop and house party disco that pays tribute to the music of the 20th century yet which you can both dance to and laugh along with. The Amorf Ördögök’s music is a kind of playful time capsule that incorporates both a romanticism from an imagined era and the space sounds of the future.
