It is very difficult nowadays to stop everything, quieten down and wait. Most people find silence disturbing and are incapable of waiting. The Advent season can help us with this. The songs and other music being played at Márta Sebestyén's Advent programme span centuries and peoples, making use of a rich legacy of written sources and oral tradition. A winner of the Kossuth Prize and the Liszt and Prima Primissima awards, Sebestyén is among the few Hungarian performing artists who represent unadulterated traditional Hungarian culture both at home and around the world, with her concerts bringing to life the nearly forgotten folk song tradition that was collected by Bartók and Kodály. Her talent, skill as a vocalist and enchanting persona have made her into a genuine phenomenon. There are very few countries that Sebestyén has not visited as an ambassadress of Hungarian culture, either as a soloist or together with her fellow musicians.
“In our turbulent world, Christmas offers an opportunity to embrace a beautiful feeling of peace. Even during World War I, the soldiers could be heard singing Angel from Heaven in the trenches.” (Márta Sebestyén)
