With this film, Márta Mészáros created her own individual style within the New Wave. While other modernist films deal with great social issues in a reflective manner, she employs a puritanical style in telling the tale of the “education” of a female textile worker who has grown up in an institution and lives in a workers’ hostel. In a series of quietly roundabout scenes, sketched with just a few cinematic brushstrokes, the conveyance of failed relationships provides a more powerful portrayal of ...the social milieu, the slow transformation of village life, and especially the social club where the girl dances to the music of pop group Illés and dreams of love. Our visitors are kindly informed that this film will be screened in Hungarian. Presented by: Palace of Arts, MaNDA
