The poet, author, translator and essay writer Gábor Schein was born in Budapest in 1969. His oeuvre is among the most expansive in Hungarian literature.

He completed his leaving exams at the József Attila High School. In 1993, earned a degree in Hungarian at ELTE before doing the same in German in 1994. In 1995, he started teaching at the Modern Hungarian Literary History Department of the ELTE university, where he continues to work after being made a professor in 2020. He has written books on the authors closest to his heart: Paul Celan, Ágnes Nemes Nagy, Sándor Weöres and Milán Füst. He spent prolonged periods abroad, which contributed to the ...preservation of his typical roominess and the continuous adaptation of his artistic thought, while the cornerstones of his work remained the same. Over the years, he was editor of several literary journals (Határ, Pannonhalmi Szemle, Nagyvilág and Irodalomtörténet). He is curator of the Hungarian Literary Translation House Foundation. His poems, novels, essays and studies have been appearing in journals, anthologies and independent volumes since 1990. He has had ten volumes of poetry and six novels published by Jelenkor, Kalligram and Magvető. He has written children's books, plays, opera librettos, novellas and political essays. His books have appeared in English, German, French, Spanish, Bulgarian, Serbian, Slovenian and Romanian. He himself translates from German and English. He holds Attila József, Milán Füst, Artisjus and Déry prizes. His most recent books are Üdvözlet a kontinens belsejéből (Greetings from the Centre of the Continent, poems, Jelenkor, 2017), Megleszünk itt (We'll Be Fine Here, novel, Magvető, 2019), Ó, rinocérosz (Oh, Rhinoceros, poetic novel, Magvető, 2021), Autobiographies of an Angel, (novel, Yale Univ. Press, 2022, translated by Ottilie Mulzet). His evening on the Literarium stage will provide a glimpse into the workshop of one of the most multifaceted representatives of the contemporary literature scene in what promises to be a genuine intellectual adventure.
