Yvette Bozsik Company: The Magic Circus
Dance for children - based on Mozart's opera The Magic Flute
24 March 2023, Friday
9 am - 10 am
Festival Theatre
Produced by Müpa Budapest

Have you ever heard of the Queen of the Night who trains animals? And of the trapeze artist Tamino? You're guaranteed to be surprised when you meet them, as well as the awkward clown, Papageno, who constantly gets mixed up in the events, or his chatty sweetheart, the tightrope artist Papagena. The names of the cast will be familiar to many from what is perhaps Mozart's most popular opera, The Magic Flute, but this time we also can be sure to witness tricks and stunts never seen before from the versatile artists of the Yvette Bozsik Company: The Magic Circus is back!

It was exactly a decade and a half ago, in 2007, that the Yvette Bozsik Company presented its brand new version of The Magic Flute, which rethought its spectacular scenes of human trials. The Magic Circus places the characters, who bring more than just their names from Mozart's opera, in a magical environment One does not need to be a mathemagician to work out that the young people who were amazed by the circus tricks performed by the dancers are now bringing their own children to the theatre for a light, yet high-quality and entertaining introduction to the spectacular "clownish" world of the production. The Kossuth Prize-winning director/choreographer Yvette Bozsik is now staging the old hit piece with a partly new cast and enriched with new elements in which the opera excerpts are performed in the original German. The characters do everything they can to please the wizard Sarastro, who has the young lovers take on one challenging trial after another. Sarastro pulls out all the stops: in this action-packed story, the mage transforms the characters, who seem to be facing distorted reflections of themselves on the lavish stage, while the Queen of the Night, who is on the side of good, takes up the fight with him...
