Kodály Day with Cimbora Ensemble and Friends

"Zoltán Kodály - I believe that everyone in the world must have heard this name. I myself first encountered it in primary school. Unfortunately, it was just the name that I encountered, as the difference in age between us - and chiefly my level of musical skill at the time - prevented us from meeting in person. Decades later, however, his music added a great deal to my life, since I myself have sung his finest works at countless performances and concerts,” says Dénes Gulyás, an Artist of Excellence, Artist of Merit, and winner of the Kossuth Prize and the Liszt Award.
Of Kodály's compositions, there is no doubt that those representing the vocal genres are his premier works. It is his choral pieces, naturally, that are most often included in performances, and producing his dramatic and oratorical output requires professional singers with a high level of skill. Although performing songs with piano accompaniment might seem like a simple undertaking, only musicians of refined technique and musicality can be relied on to interpret them adequately. This programme is an excellent opportunity for the young singers taking the stage to demonstrate their mastery of the required tools.
