A well-written artistic work must be delicate in structure: a myriad of small cogs must turn with the precision of parts of a watch, with every element and component aligned to work perfectly without any trace of friction. In opera, the scenes, characters and moods are many and varied, yet they are always logically connected. The plot is twists and turns as new pieces are continuously being added as with a jigsaw, until the picture is finally complete. The creation of the performance itself is no different to this process, and is also the fruit of many people's work. Here, we can take a peek into who is behind a production, how a performance is formed, who works together on it, what they contribute and how the personalities of the instruments and singers interact. Expect a complete "deconstruction” of the classic fairy tale.
