The program was cancelled

Dear guest,

With consideration for the health of both our visitors and staff, Müpa Budapest will remain closed for the rest of the 2019/20 season. This means that all planned performances have been cancelled up to and including 7 July.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

How do we define the genre of opera? Who are these opera singers, and why do they sing? What is that strange technique they use to increase the power of their voices? Where can we find opera in our everyday lives and how should we listen to it? Why are some male roles sung by women? Is it true that the volume of the singer's voice is linked to their body weight? How do singers practice, and how do they get ready for a role? Do singers prepare differently for concerts than they do for opera performances, or is there no difference in how they get ready for the two? Why do singers say "toi toi toi”? What determines what a singer's voice type is? Is one stage much different from another? What is the lifestyle of an opera singer like? What determines who will become a good singer and who will not? How long does it take to learn to sing? How many hours a day do singers practise? These are the kinds of questions to be answered at Müpa Budapest's latest interactive programme, which will introduce children to the genre of opera by revealing behind-the-scenes secrets and the world of the opera singer in a flexible format with plenty of music. This discussion-centred presentation will feature numerous opera excerpts and thrilling recordings, with Sára Banai interpreting both popular opera arias and less well-known ones in a format that is anything but ordinary.
