There are many answers to the question: “What happens to us when we die?” Many of these children quickly expose. It’s not worth trying to keep leading them on, so let’s leave them instead to decide for themselves what answer best suits them. This opera film offers all the existing solutions, not leading the audience astray but simply making them think and giving them a choice. Musically, too, the performance has an extremely broad sweep in exploring the theme of death: it includes not just classical, but folk and religious music, and even rituals are discernible. The music for the opera film will be a potpourri compiled and arranged from these: Requiem, Kaddish, funeral ceremony, in every language and from every culture.

Presented by: Hungarian National Philharmonic
