Géza D. Hegedűs, a Kossuth Prize-winning actor and director, is one of the most authentic and sensitive interpreters and reciters of poetry of our time. In his unconventional literature classes, he invites students into dialogue as they explore how the works of Hungary’s national literary classics are best read and interpreted. He brings these works to life, and makes them accessible to high school students, reinterpreting them through a modern lens and shedding new light on the figures of Hungarian poetic history who have, at times, become mere icons engraved in our culture. He demonstrates that the oeuvres of the great poets of the past remain relevant when approached from new angles, diverging somewhat from traditional high school literature lessons. And so it is that poets like Mihály Csokonai Vitéz, Sándor Petőfi, János Arany, Endre Ady and Attila József become our contemporaries, and perhaps even close acquaintances.

Poets revisited by the programme series:
Thursday, 29 January 2026: Mihály Csokonai Vitéz
Thursday, 26 February 2026: Sándor Petőfi
Thursday, 26 March 2026: János Arany

Thursday, 21 May 2026: Attila József
