Featuring the Danubia Symphony Orchestra and the dancers of the Honvéd Dance Ensemble Conductor: Gergely Kesselyák Just what is dance? Body movement? Entertainment? The expression of our feelings through movement? The answer is all of the above. The movement of our bodies superbly expresses what we are feeling. “We jump for joy”, as the saying goes, other times when we are sad, we cover our faces with our hands and bow our heads. Dance has evolved from these instinctive movements and has become a means of entertainment for millions and also a highly developed art form. Dance exists in its own right, without a note of music, but in truth every dance is linked to some sort of music. And because the essence of all dance is rhythmic motion, the most vital element of dance music is rhythm. We are often happy to hear dance music when movement is barely a possibility – an example is this very concert. We will also see how different nationalities treat particular dances differently.
