Yvette Bozsik Company: The Magic Circus
A ballet for children based on Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute
17 January 2013, Thursday
2 pm - 3 pm
Festival Theatre
Director-choreographer Yvette Bozsik

The performance was inspired by Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute and by the experiences gained when staging a dance performance of the same work in autumn 2006, also at the Palace of Arts. The Magic Circus has been designed for children. Here, the protagonists are members of a travelling circus (the animal trainer known as the Queen of the Night, the trapeze artist Tamino, the clown Papageno, and the tightrope walker Papagena), who must perform in the palace of the magician Sarastro. Opportunities of this kind are rare in the life of a dance company for an existing performance to be re-imagined and reinterpreted for children in such a way that they too can understand the story and the “essence” of Mozart’s opera as told in another theatrical language.
