Script: Ferenc Novák and fellow authors Music: László Rossa Song lyrics: Péter Novák Sets: László Székely Costumes: Zsuzsa Imrik Choreography: Sándor Román, Elemér Szűcs Director: Ferenc Novák Artistic director: Zoltán Zsuráfszky The great “evergreen” of Hungarian literature, Sándor Petőfi’s Sir John (János vitéz) of 1844 has been revived in numerous guises over the years. Johnny Corn has been an operetta hussar, a cartoon film hero, a star of a pantomime and who knows how many other ver...sions are still to come. The authors of the Honvéd Dance Theatre have approached Petőfi’s original work with irreverence yet respect and made a unique music and dance piece. They naturally follow the story faithfully but Petőfi’s tale is permeated with many folklore elements drawn from the folk music treasure trove and also with some hearty humour. This is a very colourful performance; it contains amorous lyricism and slapstick fights, nightmarish adventures with a dragon, rides on unique horses, hussars who are not quite what they seem and an army of dancing fairies… The authors of this work sincerely hope that their own charming and original version of the tale will bring much joy to both children and adults.
