“First we were simply glad the war was over. The men would return and life would be normal again. All would be as before. Well, nothing did. A few families fled along with the German soldiers. Whoever stayed were taken by the Russians. At other places they brought Szeklers, and the Germans had to go. Then Hungarians came from Slovakia. They had nothing either. We hadn’t had much, and were left with almost nothing. That’s the way it went. It’s over. Alles vorbei!” (Robert Balogh)

We can see the festivals of ethnic Germans, Szeklers and Magyars, who fall into despair as they are forced to leave their homes and homeland. “It shall pass. This is what I have kept repeating recently. It was a gift from Granny, I didn’t have to suffer for it. Everything shall pass. Joy, sorrow, great joy, great sorrow. You must learn to accept it.” (Robert Balogh)
