In nine years of professional training at the Hungarian Dance Academy students are taught the age-old traditions of classical ballet. At the same time, students graduating from the school are also prepared to faithfully interpret the concepts of choreographers of any age, be it the recent past, present or future. The graduation performance – which is presented here for the audience in its preliminary stage – is always intended to show both the technical abilities of the young dancers and their artistic versatility: how they invigorate age-old traditions in performing classical or neoclassical choreography; how they interpret the works of contemporary artists constructed in the formal language of classical ballet for an appreciative audience; but at the same time, how they are able to bring to the stage the brand new works of each choreographer practically at the very moment of their creation. The three parts of the evening’s performance will showcase the versatility of the young dancers. Representing the classical repertoire is Petipa’s Don Quixote suite, while Marc Ribaud’s choreography set to the music of Prokofiev flies the flag for contemporary dance. In between these two large-scale works, the audience will be able to feast their eyes on a number of virtuoso concert pieces. The children who entered the school nine years ago have now matured into young artists who merit the attention of both a domestic and foreign audience and the leaders of dance companies.
