A new Met production

The first performance of the tenth season of HD simulcasts from the Metropolitan Opera is also the hundredth overall. And here to conduct this performance is Sir Simon Rattle, whom we are welcoming for the first time to this series watched by more than a million viewers in 70 countries.
Singing the female title role in Wagner's 1865 opera, Nina Stemme is one of the finest Isoldes around today and has portrayed the Irish princess in nearly every major opera house. In the part of the envoy whose fate unfolds when he falls in love with the bride entrusted to his care will be Stuart Skelton - the Australian heldentenor sang Siegmund in the Met's Ring cycle in 2013. One of the most brilliant mezzo-sopranos of recent times, Ekaterina Gubanova will take the stage as Isolde's confidante, Brangäne, while another Russian, Evgeny Nikitin, sings the role of Kurwenal. René Pape, one of the Met's leading basses since 1995, will return as King Marke for the fourth consecutive season.
This production directed by Mariusz Treliński - the Polish artist responsible for staging both Iolanta and Bluebeard's Castle at the Met in 2015 - is being realised in collaboration with the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus, the Polish National Opera and Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts.
