Choreography: Henriett Tunyogi and Renato Paroni Featuring: Júlia Hajnóczy, Szabolcs Brickner – singers Chopin: Sonata in B flat minor, op. 35 Liszt: Benediction dans la Solitude Liszt: Mephisto Waltz No. 1 Liszt: Lorelei Bartók: Suite, op. 14 Schubert: Erlkönig Beethoven: Sonata in F minor (“Appassionata”), op. 57 “The dilemma for believers in a higher power, or those who sense it, is the irreconcilable duality of his God. If He is good and benign, why does He allow this much sufferi...ng? The answer can only be that He himself suffers within us, just as we are pained when each of our cells suffers. What is more, the divine living in us is dual, and through the experience of the opposites of good and bad, we know truth and completeness: health in illness, mortality in immortality, light through shade. This is the sense of Lucifer’s name: the Light Bringer. So through understanding via knowledge, we reach a point in art where bad and good sublimate and the death of a child in a Schubert song or the demonic evil inherent in Liszt’s Mephisto waltz are able to evoke beauty. This evening addresses this idea, showing the two contradictory faces of God reflected in art.” Tamás Vásáry, Henriett Tunyogi
