The Müpa Budapest audience has long admired Gábor Bretz’s outstanding artistry. In the 2026/2027 season, however, even greater attention will be focused on the internationally acclaimed bass baritone, celebrated for his velvety tones, refined vocal culture and exceptionally meticulous craftsmanship. As Artist of the Season at Hungary’s largest cultural institution, he will appear several times to showcase the versatility of his vocal art. The first opportunity to meet the renowned lieder singer comes in the Festival Theatre. Joined by one of Hungary’s finest piano accompanists, Emese Virág, and with insightful commentary from music historian Sándor Kovács, he will present an impressive cross-section of the great German poet Heinrich Heine’s verses set to music. The programme features works by Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Liszt, Wagner and Richard Strauss.
