Ardor - Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra

Sinfonietta Rīga is a young ensemble. It was established in 2006, by young musicians who were trained in the sophisticated style of baroque and classical music, but were also committed to modern music, especially to the extremely robust and rich, internationally admired contemporary music of the Baltic states. Nor do they baulk at forms that are distant from the world of academies, such as experimental and crossover music.

Pēteris Vasks's monumental Cello Concerto No. 2, a part of the Budapest programme, aims at nothing less than tracking the great mystery of human life from birth to death. The world-famous Latvian composer wrote his piece for Sol Gabetta, who is also very popular in Hungary. The soloist at the Hungarian premiere will be Kristaps Bergs: the young Latvian cellist attended Heinrich Schiff's Vienna masterclasses, and won important music competitions.

The concert will be preceded from 6.30 pm by a conversation entitled Prelude, where ticket holders will be invited to get to know the performing musician and the works to be performed more closely.
