To mark All Saints’ Day, this season ticket concert of the Purcell Choir and Orfeo Orchestra features funeral music by the two composing giants of Baroque music both born in 1685, George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach, composed to mark the passing of the consorts of British and German rulers respectively. Handel’s Funeral Anthem commemorating the British Queen Caroline and Bach’s Trauerode, composed to mark the passing of the estranged wife of Augustus II the Strong, were both first p...erformed in Hungary by the Purcell Choir and Orfeo Orchestra.
